The Art of Partnership: Nyasia and Kwame Sarfo on Building a Long-Term Marriage
In an era dominated by rapid-fire dating trends and situationships, one couple is working to anchor their community in the enduring work of partnership. Nyasia and Kwame Sarfo, the founders of Love4ever24, recently joined host Trae Holiday on “The Day With Trae” to discuss their unique blend of lived experience and practical tools through their "marriage enrichment" business.
The couple, who have been "inseparable for 24 years," met as college students in Pennsylvania, though they grew up just a block apart in New York City. Their business was born from a realization that while many people invest heavily in their weddings, few dedicate the same resources to the marriage itself.
"Anything worth having is work, but it's worth it, especially with the right person,” Nyasia said.
A cornerstone of the couple’s approach is authenticity, moving past the curated "glitz and glam" often seen on social media to share the realities of long-term commitment. "I always say you may see my glory, but you don't know my story," Nyasia said. "We want to give people the real.”
This "real" involves tackling tough topics like communication, finances, and gender roles, she explained. The Sarfos were quick to debunk common myths, such as the rigid expectations of who should cook or clean.
"You have to find what works for you," Nyasia said, noting that in their own home, Kwame handles the cooking and laundry.
Beyond the practical, Kwame emphasized the internal evolution required for a healthy partnership.
"The reward actually comes in the growth that happens within yourself," he said, reflecting on his own transition from being "selfish" during their dating years to making a "covenant and commitment" to his wife. He stressed the importance of receiving a partner's care with gratitude rather than annoyance, viewing relationship check-ins as a sign that "someone values me enough to want to know that I made it to my destination safely.”
Central to the Love4ever24 mission is the power of community, breaking the traditional silence that often surrounds relationship struggles in the Black community.
"We weren't meant to do it alone," Nyasia said. To that end, the couple hosts events, like their upcoming April 4th gathering at Labor Temple, that feature panel discussions with couples at various stages of marriage, from newlyweds to those they call "anchors" who have been together for over 15 years.
Whether through storytelling, games, or professional insights from therapists, the goal remains the same: to create a trustworthy space for growth. As Kwame concluded, every interaction is "a chance to either impart or take in.”
Nyasia and Kwame are hosting A Conversation On Friendship In Marriage on Saturday, April 4th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Labour Temple, 2800 1st Ave, Seattle. Get your tickets to the event here, and learn more about Love4ever24 here,
