The HBCU Seattle Series Returns: Seattle U and Jackson State Set to Inspire at T-Mobile Park
Get ready for an incredible weekend of baseball as the second annual HBCU Seattle Series returns, bringing together Seattle University and Jackson State for a powerful three-game matchup from March 6–8. This year's series culminates in a special finale at T-Mobile Park on Sunday, March 8, at 2 p.m. PT.
The event is a dedicated collaboration between Seattle U, the Seattle Mariners, and the community-rooted nonprofit Baseball Beyond Borders (BBB). The 2026 edition continues a shared commitment to expanding access, increasing exposure, and creating meaningful opportunities within the game of baseball while honoring the rich tradition and legacy of HBCU programs. The series debuted last season when the Redhawks hosted Coppin State, featuring enhanced gameday experiences and a guided tour at T-Mobile Park.
The impact of this series goes far beyond the scoreboard. Seattle U Head Coach Donny Harrel called the series an "incredible opportunity". He noted that "Events like this create visibility, opportunity and inspiration for young players of color who dream of playing this game at the highest level".
Bookie Gates, Founder and President of BBB, emphasized that "Representation shapes belief". He explained that the series "centers visibility and access while honoring the excellence that has always lived within HBCU baseball and softball programs". For youth in the community, seeing HBCU programs compete "on a stage like T-Mobile Park... expands what they can imagine for themselves".
