World Tourism Day: A Look Back at TDub’s Life-changing Trip to Belize
In honor of World Tourism Day, we’re taking a look back at Takiyah "TDub" Ward’s awe-inspiring trip to Belize with her Converge Media family over Thanksgiving in 2021. Joined by Besa Gordon, Trae Holiday, and Julia Jessie, the journey was an eye-opening chance for the women to gain new perspective on the power of art, culture, and sisterhood in a country overflowing with life and history.
From soaking up the Garifuna culture on Kalipuna Island to cooking and dancing in the lush rainforest, TDub and company used the trip as an opportunity to look internally and strengthen their bonds with each other. The trip spoke to the power of experiencing impactive moments with people you love. “Besa’s infectious energy kept us laughing, TraeAnna’s passion for social justice inspired us, and Julia's wisdom and experience guided us. Together, we formed a powerful sisterhood that made the journey even more meaningful,” TDub said.

An undeniable highlight of the trip was meeting Pen Cayetano, a legendary artist whose expression speaks to the authenticity and weight of Garifuna culture and Caribbean art. TDub recounted Pen’s deep appreciation for art and music’s ability to create bridges between cultures and celebrate the beauty of the human experiences, especially at times when division runs rampant.
In reflection, TDub made it clear that her time in Belize with her Converge family spoke to the incredible impact that travel can have on one’s outlook on the world, especially when taking the initiative to be immersed in culture and art. “My trip to Belize was a life-changing experience,” she said. “I will cherish these memories we created together forever.”
Happy World Tourism Day!
