This Concert will expose the audience to the Negro Spirituals and the diverse musical traditions that they have spawned including, Gospel, jazz, R&B, and even Hip-Hop.  The Conductors will guide a journey through a musical culture that has functioned as a tool of resistance and as a source of hope for a Black people who have endured four centuries of white supremacy and its unrelenting assault on Black lives and Black bodies.  The intent of this Concert is to use music to connect the African American struggle for freedom and justice with the struggles of other Americans who have had to fight their way in from the margins of our society.

SEATTLE, Wash. – Seattle-based and Black-owned media powerhouse, Converge Media, received the coveted Governor’s Award on Saturday night during the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) Northwest annual ceremony.

Fell trees and salvage fallen timber. Respond to emergency calls to remove damaged sections or entire trees. Maintain, inspect, and operate a variety of equipment such as hydraulic aerial lift trucks, hand and power saws, compressors, wood chippers, winches, blowers, stump cutters, and other field equipment. Plant, water, and prune young trees. Spray or inject trees with pesticides. One year of experience is required.

Art might not be able to combat systemic racism overnight. But organizers behind ELEVATE—Seattle Theatre Group’s spoken-word poetry showcase—are hoping that art can empower Black and Brown youth navigating oppression everyday. Coming up in June, ELEVATE returns to the Moore Theatre for the second year in a row—and for the first time as an in-person performance due to the pandemic. This is a free event created by and for Black people and other People of Color. However, all are welcome and invited to attend.

Seattle, WA – The Vida Agency, (TVA) and Converge Media announced today a strategic partnership to align core company competencies to better serve the diverse communities across the Northwest. The Vida Agency, founded by Amalia Martino, is a woman and minority-owned, multicultural communications company renowned for their deep fluency in the nuances of cultural competence and work with diverse and traditionally underserved communities. Converge Media is the trusted resource for culturally compassionate, community news and entertainment tailored for Black and urban Northwest audiences. 

The Seattle Office of Arts & Culture (ARTS) is opening a new funding program, Hope Corps, that connects under- and unemployed workers in the creative industries with career opportunities. The application is open now through June 6, 2022.  

Following a year of negotiation and fundraising, the Cultural Space Agency and Rainier Avenue Radio are proud to announce their partnership, and their purchase of the historic Columbia City Theater. With support from the Strategic Investment Fund, as well as direct philanthropy from local supporters, the two organizations have acquired the Theater for $3.2 million and plan to reopen a fully renovated facility in 2023. Through the creation of the New Columbia City Theater Trust, cultural community members and neighbors will have the opportunity to be direct owners of, and investors in, the property.

The final mainstage opera of the season is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s crafty comedy The Marriage of Figaro (May 7–22, 2022 at McCaw Hall). Beloved for its irresistible melodies, iconic ensemble numbers, and witty commentary on social class and gender roles, this opera has long been a favorite of audiences and critics alike.

The Seattle Department of Education and Early Learning (DEEL) is currently requesting applications from community-based organizations and city agencies for DEEL’s Summer Learning Enhancement Request for Investment (RFI). Funded by the Families, Education, Preschool and Promise Levy, this funding opportunity seeks to expand or enhance existing community-based summer programs for Seattle K-12 students.

SPU’s Customer Review Panel (CRP) is seeking new members for July 2022 appointment. CRP members participate with SPU leadership provide advice and recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on the Utility’s strategic plan and rates. CRP members bring expertise in community, with different professional and life experiences, to ensure SPU fosters healthy people, environment, and economy by partnering with our community to equitably manage water and waste resources for today and for future generations.

New partnership with Community Development Financial Institutions will allow small  businesses to borrow up to $150,000 in operating capital to support economic  stabilization and long-term recovery.
