Those were the first words out of Jay Martin Jr.’s mouth when he joined the Converge family. Martin, of course, is excellent in his own right. A Telly award-winning actor and the host of Crosscut at KCTS 9 (Seattle’s PBS station), Martin understands the level of dedication and preparation required to produce meaningful content. Martin brings that level of professionalism to his podcast, The Drive Project Podcast, which is now the latest addition to the Converge Media Network.

In April of 2021, Converge Media and Vanishing Seattle released a short film about The Postman, a shipping and small business services company in the Central District. Watch the video above and hear the stories of owners Keanna and D'Vonne Pickett. Since then, The Postman has been undergoing an expansion effort as they look to bring their business to more people around Seattle.

The City of Seattle Office of Economic Development (OED) is investing $1.9 million for tenant improvement grants that will support small businesses impacted by COVID-19. Through an open application process, the Tenant Improvement Fund will grant small businesses up to $100,000 to build out commercial spaces and make commercial improvements more affordable.

TASWIRA (Transformative Action for Sustainable Women's Initiatives & Resources in Africa) African Streetwear has been making a name for itself both locally and abroad. Spearheaded by Avery Barnes, the company imports handmade clothing from Kenya while making sure to support those making the items. Barnes has made numerous trips to Kenya and works closely with the women who produce the goods.

The Seattle Sounders lost their 7th game in the last 10 contests, falling today to Real Salt Lake. The Sounders inability to score their generated chances as well as defensive ineptitude continues to hinder this club, and is putting their postseason streak on the line.

Dr. Sidney Nelson made his debut on the Rewind With Besa to discuss Monkeypox and break down what we know so far. There are over 260 cases of Monkeypox currently in Washington State, with over 200 in King County, so it’s important to get educated and stay safe.

Dr. Sidney Nelson will be joining the Rewind With Besa as a recurring guest. Dr. Nelson is a board certified internal medicine doctor who practices primary care medicine. He will bring health news and tips to the show, providing expertise which will bring an exciting new perspective to Converge Media programming. 

“My big thing is getting on a platform where I can reach more people and get them educated,” Dr. Nelson said. “I'm really big on health care prevention. So preventive medicine, making sure that you get all the screening measures that are age appropriate.”

One of Converge Media’s longest-running shows is getting a new face: Converge Media CEO Omari Salisbury will join host Julia Jessie as they unpack what’s trending in the world of current events in an entertaining and relatable way.

“I'm really excited for Omari to join the show and to have a co-host again,” Jessie said. “We already have a bunch of natural chemistry so I'm super stoked about it.”

The Seattle Mariners, with a 4-3 win over the New York Yankees on August 10th, would win their first season series against the Bronx Bombers since 2002. The big win was highlighted by a solid outing pitching wise by Robbie Ray, a Sam Haggerty solo homer to break up a no hitter, and a go ahead homer by Carlos Santana to give the Mariners a lead they would never look back from.

In a game of the year candidate, the Seattle Mariners toppled the New York Yankees by the score of 1-0 in 13 long innings. Luis Castillo made his T-Mobile Park debut and dazzled fans with an 8 innings shutout masterclass.

Deaunte Damper is set to make his return to the set of We Live In Color Wednesday night at 8:30 pm with special guest Nikkita Oliver. Damper had taken leave to pursue treatment for addiction, and is now back to share his story as well as the stories of others.

“I feel rejuvenated,” Damper said. “I’d been dealing with addiction for a while and I felt like it was finally time to learn to really take care of myself.”

In game one of their three game series, the New York Yankees clubbed the Seattle Mariners by a score of 9-4. The Bronx Bombers got after starter Logan Gilbert early, and the Mariners simply could not do much to keep themselves in the game offensively.

It was a great time at Seafair weekend as festivities returned to full force for the first time in two years after a break due to the pandemic. Our Bryan Saldana was there to capture the sights as the Blue Angels and the Hydroplanes put on a show.
