CD Panthers: The Marathon screens at Scope Screenings
Last night, we screened CD Panthers: The Marathon at Scope Screenings. The film produced by Ronnell Moore honors the legacy of D’Vonne Pickett Jr, who was tragically murdered in October. Pickett served as the head coach of the CD Panthers 6u team and leaves a lasting legacy in the program and the community.

The Seattle Kraken end their three game homestand in poor fashion, losing 4-2 to the Montreal Canadiens. Shane Wright scored his first NHL goal in the first period and put in a good performance, but the rest of his team couldn’t pull their weight in a teeth grinding effort.
KEN GRIFFEY JR., MLB AND THE MLBPA ANNOUNCE THE INAUGURAL “HBCU SWINGMAN CLASSIC”
Major League Baseball (MLB), the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) and Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. jointly announced today the launch of the inaugural “HBCU Swingman Classic,” an annual All-Star experience for baseball student-athletes from Division-I programs at Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU). The philanthropic & educational event, which will center around an “All-Star” Game, will be held during 2023 MLB All-Star Week in July at T-Mobile Park, home of the Seattle Mariners, the franchise for which Griffey Jr. played for 13 seasons during his legendary career.

The film documents the impact of D’Vonne Pickett Jr. on the CD Panthers youth football program. Pickett, who was murdered in October, was the head coach for the 6u team and made an indelible impact on the lives of the youth he coached.

Mr. and Mrs. Community Pageant returns thanks to Regine Dynasty
After a two-year wait, The 10th annual Mr. and Mrs. Community Pageant was held at the newly open in Sankofa Theatre. This pageant was started in 2012 by the legendary La Saveona Hunt . Panthers tear into Kraken in 5-1 loss, ending Seattle's win streak
The Seattle Kraken saw their 7-game winning streak end in horrible, brutal fashion in a 5-1 shelling at the hands of the Florida Panthers. The Kraken never were truly able to get their feet set and couldn’t right the ship throughout the game either.

Kraken flip late switch to beat Capitals with Matty Beniers’ overtime winner
It took Matty Beniers seven seconds in overtime to extend the Seattle Kraken win streak to seven. The Kraken withstood an early struggle in the first period and a half, scoring two “greasy” goals in order to head to the overtime period.

Rise Above releases new short film in partnership with Converge Media
In July, Rise Above hosted their second annual health and wellness weekend in Spokane, Washington. The organization hosted hundreds of youth to play sports, learn about health and wellness, and hear from a variety of speakers. Rise Above, founded by Jaci McCormack, focuses on providing opportunities and education for Native youth. McCormack hopes that through exposure to sports and opportunities for growth, kids will gain skills which will positively impact them for the rest of their lives.

It was an exciting night for Converge family member Jay Martin Jr. as he and his wife Shan hosted our Wiz ticket giveaway winners for a double date at Seattle’s Ben Paris restaurant at The State Hotel and attended a performance of The Wiz at 5th Avenue Theatre. The giveaway ran in the weeks leading up to The Wiz’s opening night, and it was certainly a night to remember for our lucky winners.
