The gala featured host Mitch Mitchell, performances from drag stars, and keynote speaker Ashley McGirt.

Auditions for STG’s 22nd Annual More Music @ The Moore have been extended through December 30
Seattle Theatre Group (Paramount, Moore, Neptune) will be selecting some of the region’s most talented emerging artists, ages 14-21, for a performance at the Moore Theatre. MM@M is seeking a great variety of style and genre including world, cultural, popular, classical and contemporary music. Bands, Ensembles, and soloists- all are encouraged to audition. Once selected, in person rehearsals are required, so being within 30 miles of downtown Seattle is advised.
CD Panthers celebrated by Seahawks and Friends of Waterfront at annual banquet
Friends of Waterfront Seattle and the Seattle Seahawks sponsored their annual awards banquet at Lumen Field's West Club in partnership with some of Waterfront Park's community & programming partners: Langston Seattle, CD Forum for Arts & Ideas, Verity Credit Union, Converge Media, and Africatown Community Land Trust, who stepped up to support uplifting this multi-decade staple organization and the work they continue to do tirelessly for Black youth and any child who wishes to participate.

POCAAN Gala will celebrate the accomplishments of 2022, big things ahead for ‘23
“We’re still here and we’re still fighting.”
That was the message sent by POCAAN Development and Communications Manager David Corrado. Since 1987, the People of Color Against AIDS Network has been working to serve people in marginalized communities across the state of Washington. POCAAN provides a variety of services, from HIV/AIDS testing to housing support to medical care and more. At one point, the organization had seven offices scattered around Washington State. Since then, their physical footprint has shrunk but their impact continues to grow.

Seattle Protests Continue as Iran’s Death Toll Rises
Two weeks after Jina “Mahsa” Amini was killed by Iran’s so-called morality police, I found myself gravitating toward a simmering, expanding collective of protestors who hailed from Seattle and surrounding cities. After 43 years under the Islamic Republic dating back to the 1979 Iranian Revolution, the disturbing witness accounts of Amini’s beating sent ripple effects throughout the country and, in turn, the world. Just one day after Amini died in a coma due to blunt-force trauma to her head, Iranian citizens poured out into the streets countrywide, amassing by the thousands in unprecedented fashion.

THURSDAY: Keanna Pickett joins The Day With Trae
Tomorrow morning, Keanna Rose Pickett will join Trae Holiday in our Black Media Matters studio for a special #TheDayWithTrae. Pickett’s husband, D’vonne, was murdered in October. She will join Holiday ahead of the re-opening of The Postman, which is set to resume operations tomorrow as well. It will be an impactful interview as Pickett and Holiday reflect on D’Vonne’s contributions to the community and look ahead to how his legacy will be continued.
