Mediums Collective hosted their 2023 Runway show and Opening Night party at their location at 705 E Pike St as Roger and Cesar Maldonado hosted a night to remember.

On January 31st, 2023 TBCM Music Publishing will release a new song closing out a yearlong Anti-Gun violence Campaign called “Beloved,” a multimedia and art driven project. Each phase of the campaign explores gun violence in the Black community as a symptom of illness caused by systemic inequality.

In their final game before the All-Star break, the Seattle Kraken were able to handily dismantle the Columbus Blue Jackets. Resulting in a 3-1 score, Seattle hardly ever had resistance to manage as the Kraken got scoring contributions from Morgan Geekie, Alex Wennberg, and Eeli Tolvanen while Philipp Grubauer was again solid in net.

On Wednesday, January 25, a three-person panel hosted by United Way of King County highlighted the importance of local BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) businesses in the community. The panelists, all active in supporting local BIPOC businesses, included former Seahawk wide receiver Doug Baldwin.

For the first time in their existence, the Seattle Kraken were finally able to best the Vancouver Canucks, annihilating their neighbors to the North by a score of 6-1. Five Kraken skaters scored a goal and ten of them recorded a point in the historic victory.

During the month of February, Seattle will be home to a brand new Black History Museum featuring 14 different exhibits highlighting the culture and achievements of the Black community in Seattle and beyond. Washington’s 43rd District Democrats is partnering with Tech4Housing to produce a first-of-its-kind concert featuring local Seattle artists in support of social housing initiative I-135. Lawyer Sade Smith joined HeartBeat with Cindi Bright to discuss efforts to reform the King County Jail as well as the King County court and bail system.

“Our community members are having large amounts of bail posted on them,” Smith said. She added that the bail placed on Black people in the jail is 40% higher than the average.

In the second annual Seattle Kraken Super Skills Showcase, Seattle’s NHL team gave a great crowd inside of Climate Pledge Arena a show as they competed in several fun filled events. Fans, whether they were witnessing the team for the first time or not, got to see a laid back side of the Kraken.

Appollonia Washington and A 4 Apple Learning Center hosted a new coat giveaway at their location in the CD. It was a meaningful and impactful afternoon as over 300 families were able to get resources they needed.

A fired-up crowd showed their support for King County Councilmember Girmay Zahilay at his reelection campaign launch on Saturday afternoon at Washington Hall in Seattle’s Central District.

“If you give me another term, if you give my team another term—another four years of uplifting the ideas and the brilliance of frontline communities, so we can solve the biggest crises that each and every single one of us want to solve,” Zahilay said.

A playoff-like atmosphere filled Climate Pledge Arena as the Seattle Kraken played host to the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche. Colorado and Seattle battled hard, trading near miss opportunity through three periods and overtime, but the Kraken ultimately succumbed to the Avalanche in a shootout.
