Besa Gordon was out with the youth during the Seattle Slam Basketball Tournament, a free two day celebration of basketball and fitness in Downtown Seattle. Seattle’s The Poetry Experience celebrated their 25th anniversary earlier this month, marking a quarter-century of sharing, creating, and community building. Founded by Rajnii Gibson-Eddins, The Poetry Experience consists of workshops and held space for people to come together and explore the power of the written word. The celebration took place at Blue Cone Studios, bringing together poets like Monique Franklin, Ebo, Roberto Ascalon and more.

Over one hundred people gathered at Westlake park on September 16th, the one year anniversary of the killing of Mahsa Amini, a 22 year old Kurdish Iranian woman. She died in police custody after being arrested for allegedly violating a law mandating that women in Iran wear headscarfs. Her death sparked a movement in Iran and around the world for women’s rights.
