Amplifying the Underground: Inside Scope Screenings’ Grunge, Punk, and Emo Night

The spirit of grunge, punk, and emo took over the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute last month when Scope Screenings hosted their monthly film festival in Seattle's Central District, showcasing a lineup of underrepresented Pacific Northwest filmmakers.

Every last Tuesday of the month, Seattle Film Commissioner Lex Scope brings together local filmmakers, artists, and movie enthusiasts to showcase their work on a big-screen platform, forging a path for up-and-coming creatives to make their mark on the Emerald City.

Drawing a passionate crowd from across the region, September’s Scope Screenings demonstrated Lex Scope’s mission toward accessibility, direct community engagement, and networking, giving rising creators the confidence and visibility needed to thrive in the film industry. The partnership with one of Seattle’s historic Black venues only perpetuates this mission.

“The fact that the legendary Langston Hughes and Scope Screenings are working together to showcase all this—man, you can't beat that,” creator MarkTellsYa said.

Tonight at Scope Screenings, the mission remains the same, but with a Halloween theme. Pull up with your friends to check out some of the city’s best filmmakers on the big screen, including work from Converge Media. Make sure you’re rocking your best Halloween costume!
