Black Queer Excellence: ‘We Live In Color’ Marks 100th Episode Milestone At Langston Hughes
"We live in color because life is not black and white. It is a beautiful rainbow.”
That’s what Seattle Gay News columnist Mattie Mooney said at the historic Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute in September when community members gathered to honor a monumental milestone: the We Live In Color 100th Episode Live Show with host and community advocate Deaunte Damper.
Marking the end of Season 4, the evening was a breathtaking showcase of the magic that unfolds when community intentionally creates spaces to uplift, center, and amplify voices that have too long been pushed to the margins. Featuring actor and special guest Christopher Livingston, every moment overflowed with fierce love, unyielding purpose, and Black joy.
At its core, We Live In Color is a sanctuary for truth, lived experience, and radical authenticity for Black and queer people in the Pacific Northwest. Over four seasons, it has continuously challenged narratives, inviting guests and audiences alike to stand boldly in their power and see the fullness of their identity reflected with dignity.
“Deaunte Damper has a beautiful way of not just inviting people to sit down for a conversation, but inviting people to sit in front of a mirror—to see themselves, to see their support, and to see how much more there really is for each of us to do,” singer and songwriter Ariyah Jané said, a message soul singer Adra Boo echoed.
Reaching 100 episodes is an incredible achievement, yet it marks only the dawn of an even greater movement. This milestone reminds us to never shrink, never quiet our voices, and relentlessly claim the space we deserve. Damper continues to light the way, proving that when we embrace our full truth and shine in every shade of brilliance, we redefine what it means to heal, thrive, and triumph together.
