Building Generational Wealth: Celebrating Black Homeownership at the Annual Equity Ball
The third annual Black Equity Ball last year was a celebration of Black homeownership, financial empowerment, and community support in the Pacific Northwest. Hosted by Besa Gordon at Four Points by Sheraton, the night brought together current and aspiring homeowners, real estate professionals, and community leaders with a shared vision for a more equitable future.
Founder Anzhane Slaughter, CEO of Young Black Homeowners, said that the event is a movement dedicated to celebrating and increasing Black homeownership. She emphasized the role of homeownership in building generational wealth and shrinking the racial wealth gap.
Financial therapist Jenefeness Franke underscored that owning a home is the number one way to build wealth in this country. Attendees were also reminded of the importance of community and networking to foster a safe and supportive space for discussing aspirations and goals.
The event actively addressed financial barriers by highlighting critical resources, including the Home Covenant Act and numerous down payment assistance programs available in Washington State. Hostess Elisha Michelle encouraged everyone to utilize these programs and reach out to professionals with questions.
