Celebrating HERstory Tea Party At WOW Gallery Women of Color and Community
#WonderIsComing - This story is a part of Back2Besa’s look back and love letter to WOW Gallery after the recent closure of its Pacific Place Mall location.
In March 2025, the WOW Gallery in downtown Seattle hosted its Celebrating HERstory Tea Party, a high tea event dedicated to honoring Black women and women of color during Women's History Month. Community organizations from across Washington state convened, fostering connections and celebrating their collective efforts in a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere.
Curated by founders Veronica Very and Hiawatha D., the gallery itself served as a backdrop of healing, adorned with artwork that beautifully reflected Black heritage, culture, and iconic Black women. Attendees, dressed in elegant tea attire and hats and embraced the powerful energy of Black womanhood. Representatives from the Black Heritage Society enriched the event by sharing their archives, contributing to an experience marked by mutual encouragement and enthusiasm.
This intentional gathering addressed a critical need within the often-dispersed Black community of the Pacific Northwest, allowing Black women to learn about each other's work, forge new friendships, and explore collaborative opportunities. Participants left with a reinforced sense of community and motivation, inspired to engage with other organizations and continue their vital work in healing, education, ancestry, and liberation.
