Creative Lou's Community Canvas: Damon Brown on His Baseball Mural at Steelheads Alley

During the Takeover: All-Star Edition at Pier 62, Takiyah Ward showcased unique baseball-inspired art around the city for All-Star Week in 2023. As part of the feature, she sat down with artist Damon Brown to discuss the stunning mural he created at Steelheads Alley near T-Mobile Park. The mural itself depicts a vibrant community baseball game at a park located close to the current site of Garfield High School.

Brown explained that his inspiration came from the Sunday gatherings at the park, where people from across the city would come together to play baseball, and he aimed to capture "all groups" in his painting. He noted that starting the process revealed a "rich history of baseball" in Seattle that he was previously unaware of.

Today, the Mariners take on the Texas Rangers for yet another Steelheads Sunday at T-Mobile Park. After the game, join the after-party across the street at the Steelheads Alley, a proud Black-owned business and a key part of the Métier Brewing Company portfolio.
