Artists Takiyah Ward and Moses Sun Host Graffiti 'Skillshop' in Midtown Square
The Vivid Matter Collective hosted an educational "Skillshop" event at Midtown Square last year, providing students from the Jack and Jill Seattle chapter with a comprehensive introduction to graffiti and mural making.
Led by artists and leaders of Vivid Matter Collective Moses Sun and Takiyah Ward, the workshop offered first-time participants a deep dive into the history of the art form, tracing its origins back to ancient cave drawings and Egyptian hieroglyphs. Students were equipped with specialized kits containing sketchbooks, bags, and spray cans to help them begin making their own marks on the world while connecting with a historical global tradition of self-expression.
The program aims to foster engagement and bravery among youth by connecting them with mentors who share their cultural background. Beyond artistic skills, the initiative is designed to inspire the next generation to fearlessly pursue creative spaces and potentially build their own businesses.
