Vitamin D & Roc Phizzle Join Q-Tip vs. J Dilla Tribute

On Saturday, April 12, 2025, the Royal Room in Columbia City, Seattle, became a vibrant hub of hip hop history and celebration. Miss Tish Productions, led by Tish Gallow, presented a special tribute event: 'Q-Tip vs. J Dilla Tribute with Live Band.' This wasn't just a concert; it was an immersive educational experience honoring the profound impact of two legendary artists.

A live band brought their iconic tracks to life, while figures like Vitamin D and Roc Phizzle shared insights and personal anecdotes, highlighting the artists' influence and collaborative genius. The evening explored the music lineage where Q-Tip pioneered and J Dilla innovated, pushing boundaries to another level. Roc Phizzle emphasized how Q-Tip introduced jazz elements into hip hop, directly inspiring artists like Digable Planets, and also how he brought J Dilla into the spotlight, forever changing the soundscape of the genre.

Both Vitamin D and Roc Phizzle, who come from families with deep roots in the music industry, added a personal touch, sharing their unique perspectives. Beyond the music, this event served as a powerful moment of community and a celebration of Black culture, with Tish Gallow's intentional effort to bring the Black community back to Columbia City.

It was also a joyous occasion to celebrate Q-Tip's birthday. The event, hailed as Seattle's first hip hop versus with a live band, was not a competition but a testament to the artistic greatness of both Q-Tip and J Dilla, uplifting their legacies and educating attendees about their enduring influence. The camera was plugged into the board at times, capturing insightful commentary, especially from Roc Phizzle, about the artistry. 'It was a good night to be alive and black,' as Vitamin D put it, summarizing the atmosphere of unity and musical appreciation.
