The Trap Lab: Cultivating Community, Culture, and Wellness in Federal Way

The Trap Lab, a fitness studio in Federal Way, Washington, is celebrating its fourth year of operation, built on a vision to create a culturally relevant space for wellness. Founded and operated by sisters Icea Pettigrew and Sharde Bullard, this Black women-owned business has prioritized the emotional, physical, and mental well-being of its community.

The studio's success is rooted in its deep connection to the community, which was instrumental in helping establish the brick-and-mortar location. A significant driver of growth has been the popularity of line dancing classes, led by Jacqueline Herrera, which consistently sell out and attract a diverse crowd.

By providing a much-needed Black-centric hub in Federal Way, The Trap Lab has become a vital resource, attracting members from across the Northwest. The co-founders leverage their experience with the non-profit Phenomenal She to focus on mentorship and addressing community needs. Looking ahead, Pettigrew and Bullard envision continued growth and community impact, with their commitment to holistic wellness—mental and emotional alongside physical—positioning The Trap Lab for lasting success in the region.
