He outlined policies on gun violence prevention, department audits, and participatory budgeting in the county.

Last Thursday, the community gathered for King County’s Black History Month recognition and flag-raising ceremony at King County’s Administration Building in Seattle. King County Executive Girmay Zahilay and King County Councilmember Rhonda Lewis, the county’s first Black woman councilmember, addressed the crowd. 

Port of Seattle Commissioner Toshiko Hasegawa has officially announced her campaign for the King County Council, District 2 seat. The King County Council, yesterday, unanimously selected Rhonda Lewis for an interim appointment to represent District 2, filling the seat vacated by now-King County Executive Girmay Zahilay. The appointment, celebrated by the Executive's office, is historic as Ms. Lewis becomes the first Black woman to serve on the King County Council, an event that also establishes the Council's first-ever majority of women.

Hughes, who has been with KCLS for 12 years and the Makerspace for five, discussed her journey to the library system and the wealth of accessible resources available to the community.
