PHOTOS: King County Celebrates Black History Month with Flag-Raising Ceremony

Last Thursday, the community gathered for King County’s Black History Month recognition and flag-raising ceremony at King County’s Administration Building in Seattle. King County Executive Girmay Zahilay and King County Councilmember Rhonda Lewis, the county’s first Black woman councilmember, addressed the crowd.

The event held a moment of silence honoring civil rights activist Jesse Jackson after his passing earlier this month. Many prominent community leaders attended, including local community and civil rights activist Eddie Rye and Community Engagement for the King County Regional Office of Gun Violence Prevention Deaunte Damper.

“I’m grateful to sit beside so many community leaders who continue to build, protect, and uplift our people across the county and beyond,” Damper said. “Legacy lives in action.”
