Redeemed Wellness Center: A New Era of Culturally Responsive Healthcare in the South End
Dr. Jacquelyn Boles, founder of Redeemed Wellness Center, recently sat down with Trae Holiday on The Day with Trae to share her inspiring mission and career in the healthcare industry. The center in Renton, which recently celebrated its soft grand opening, aims to fill a critical void in culturally responsive healthcare, particularly in Seattle’s South End.
Nurturing a deep interest in healthcare, Dr. Boles’ journey into medicine began with a profound realization, sparked by her mother's establishment of the Tiny Tots Development Center in 1969 in Seattle’s Rainier Valley. As a nurse, Dr. Boles observed a growing prevalence of autism and communication disorders, propelling her to integrate her expertise with education to confront the systemic trauma impacting the Black community.
The Redeemed Wellness Center epitomizes Dr. Bole's dedication to holistic well-being. Influenced by her husband’s work in diverting young people from incarceration, Dr. Boles expanded her vision to encompass comprehensive wellness. She explained that traditional Western medicine often focuses on solving existing problems rather than aiming to stay healthy.
"You have a problem, you fix it. I have a cold, I fix it... Where was it taught to be well and to stay well?" she said.
This question led her to seek wellness therapy training in Bellevue, where she discovered a community and resources that fit her vision. "If I can bring this to the South End, why do they have to drive to Bellevue to get it?” she said. “I've got a space. I've got a building. I've got a skill. I've got knowledge. Let's bring it together for our people. We deserve it too.”
A cornerstone of Redeemed Wellness Center's philosophy is an unwavering commitment to accessible care. Dr. Boles. spent a year working to become a Medicaid provider, driven by her belief that all people deserve “Cadillac Beyoncé" level health, regardless of insurance.
"It gets on my nerves that we think we're less than because we've been treated less than," she said.
The center's soft grand opening revealed immediate, overwhelming demand, prompting a rapid expansion of services to include hydration therapy, weight-loss management, well-child exams, and women's health resources. The event, attended by city officials and community leaders, highlighted the urgent need for integrated behavioral health, wellness, and medical spa services under one roof.
Dr. Boles made clear her commitment to tearing down barriers between healthcare and communities in need, ensuring that everyone receives the care they deserve.
