Connectors will help ensure equitable economic recovery

The Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, the Port of Seattle, and King County announced today that seven community organizations will serve local small businesses through the Community Business Connector (CBC) program.

These organizations, identified as Connectors, will serve small businesses in five geographic hubs in King County through a targeted outreach program. Connectors will provide access to available business resources to help them sustain and grow their enterprises. A review panel selected the Connector finalists following a competitive application process.

Seattle is embracing its multi-generation legacy as a live music destination with Cloudbreak, Seattle’s ReviveLive Music Fest, a new festival running from Nov. 3-23, 2022. The one-time festival is produced in partnership by Seattle’s destination marketing organization, Visit Seattle, and King County. Cloudbreak will invite visitors and locals to experience Seattle’s live music as venues once again host concerts after the COVID-19 pandemic caused many venues to shutter their doors temporarily.

Eastside Catholic defeats Garfield in battle of the unbeatens

On Friday afternoon the Round Up team met down at Memorial stadium for the Friday night lights game of week. The highly anticipated match up between the undefeated Garfield Bulldogs and the undefeated Eastside Catholic Crusaders got under way at 7:45 pm. The first half of the game was a true battle with the two schools showcasing just how good their defenses can be. Stand out players on Garfield’s defense include # 9 Micheal Montgomery and #26 Mister Beaver and #16 Henry Smidt. Quarterback EJ Caminong found Wide Receiver #1 Jamaica Myres on a drive that led to Garfield putting up 7 points.

Join SABJ for the third edition of our Black Voices Matter series, in which we highlight the work of Black media professionals. This time, we will talk to Essex Porter, an icon among Seattle journalists. Essex spent 43 distinguished years as a broadcaster, 39 of them with Seattle’s KIRO 7. KING 5’s Joyce Taylor will talk with Essex about his illustrious career, the state of the local journalism industry, what the future holds for Black journalists and media, and other pieces of wisdom he’s gained during his time in the media business. The event will be live-streamed from Converge Media’s headquarters in Seattle and will conclude with a Q&A portion.

Seattle Takes to the Streets for Women’s Rights in Iran

Hundreds of people gathered in Seattle on Friday to condemn the Iranian government’s crackdown on protesters in that country in the aftermath of the death of a young woman who was killed while in police custody.

Dozens of protesters there have been killed or arrested.

The protests in Iran began after 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was arrested by Iran’s morality police for allegedly violating the Islamic country’s strict dress code for head coverings. She died a few days after being detained.
