Blown chances bite Mariners in loss to Nationals to even series
Following yesterday’s satisfying series opener victory, the Seattle Mariners dropped a frustrating, bizarre game two against the Washington Nationals to even the series up. Seattle had numerous chances to pull away or slam the door shut, but failed to do so and are left with heightened frustrations as they can’t seem to make things click.

Matty Beniers named Calder Trophy winner in dominating fashion
In dominating fashion, Seattle Kraken rookie center Matty Beniers was named the 2023 Calder Memorial Trophy winner, selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League. Beniers tallied 57 points in his rookie year, playing 80 games as the Kraken had an incredible second year.

The Tacoma Defiance continued a successful month of June with a narrow victory over Austin FC II at Starfire Stadium. Forward Braudillo Rodrigues buried a penalty kick in the first half, giving Tacoma a lead that they’d never surrender.

Offensively frustrated Sounders continue to scuttle along in draw to Orlando City
The Seattle Sounders continue to struggle offensively at a frustrating pace, as they split points with Orlando City SC in a scoreless draw at Lumen Field. Seattle hosted Pride Night, but the Sounders aren't surely proud with their performances as of late considering the struggles on the attack. While differing factors took out several key players, Seattle still had numerous opportunities to find the back of the net and could not.

Pride Month Spotlight: Gina Brown
Gina Brown is a community organizer with the Southern AIDS Coalition. She has worked in the field of HIV for more than 15 years and has been living with HIV for more than 23 years. Gina graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern University at New Orleans, with a Bachelor of Social Work and a minor in History in 2011. She received her Master's degree in Social Work in 2012. Gina is a former member of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA). Gina has served on numerous boards and committees. She currently serves on CrescentCare Health’s Board of Trustees.
Storm offense burned away by the Sun in the second half as Seattle falls to Connecticut
In another tightly contested battle, the Seattle Storm fell in a close loss to the Connecticut Sun. Starting a three-game homestand, the Storm held a three-point lead at the halftime break before the Sun used a strong third quarter to pull away and ultimately never surrender the lead again.

Kelenic comes up clutch as Mariners take series over White Sox with 5-1 win
To close out their series against the Chicago White Sox and their six-game homestand, the Seattle Mariners were victorious thanks to a crucially big game from Bryce Miller and a clutch triple from Jarred Kelenic. Although there wasn’t balance, per say, on the offensive end for Seattle, the Mariners got runs across when they needed to and now head out on a big road trip.
