Art Brothers Moses Sun and barry johnson Conclude Amazon Residency

Seattle-based artists Moses Sun and barry johnson, concluded their two-month tandem residency at The Understory in January 2024, a public exhibit space located beneath the Amazon Spheres. This residency was part of Amazon’s ongoing initiative to uplift the local arts community, providing the duo with a unique platform to work and interact with the public.

The artists embraced the unconventional studio, which Moses Sun likened to a "spaceship," fostering creativity and connection within an ecosystem of living plants. barry johnson noted that being in the space daily, with hundreds of people walking through, was more than any show he had ever held, allowing people from all over to stumble in and ask about their creative process and intentions.

Sun and johnson’s presence transformed The Understory into a community hub, attracting engineers, musicians, and art enthusiasts from around the globe. Johnson described the experience as "very illuminating," emphasizing the ability to share space with Moses and talk about their collective practice, while also demonstrating "the power of us" to create when given the tools.
