Forging Artistic Pathways: The Creative Advantage Institute at Seattle Art Museum

To celebrate National Go To An Art Museum Day, we take a look back at when Back2Besa collaborator GZ Radio covered The Creative Advantage Summer Institute at the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) last year. Local artists, art educators, administrators, and community partners took part in professional learning through panels, workshops, and community-building activities, with the goal to make arts more accessible to all grade levels.

Director of the City of Seattle Office of Arts and Culture Gülgün Kayim emphasized the importance of arts education for empowering youth to find their voice. Executive Director of Rainbow Research Dr. Samuel Leguizamon Grant discussed how the creative process has been put into a bubble due to systems of power and control, advocating for "real shared power." The resources seek to solidify art as liberation and a way for students to communicate, even those who are quiet in a traditional classroom setting.
