Elite HBCU Action in the Emerald City: Seattle U Redhawks Host Jackson State Tigers
Who’s ready for some HBCU action at T-Mobile Park? The second annual HBCU Seattle Series is returning Sunday, March 8 when the Emerald City’s own Seattle U Redhawks take on the Jackson State Tigers. Get ready for the sound, the culture, and the elite athleticism straight from the heart of HBCU baseball.
The three-game series’ undeniable impact of expanding access and opportunity to baseball is formidable, reminding us of the legacy of the 2023 HBCU Swingman Classic. Board President of the community-rooted nonprofit Baseball Beyond Borders (BBB) Cemal Ford explained that the Swingman Classic demonstrated a strong demand for HBCU culture and representation in the Northwest, setting the bar high for the electric energy that HBCU baseball could generate in the Emerald City.
Beyond the spirit, the Swingman Classic proved the remarkable strength and interest of the local Black community in baseball. With over 10,000 attendees flooding T-Mobile Park in 2023, the Classic’s overwhelming turnout motivated BBB to create a recurring way to extend its impact, leading to the creation of the annual Seattle Series as a platform for ongoing HBCU representation and access to baseball and softball in the Northwest.
“The HBCU Swingman Classic showed us what is possible, now we carry the legacy forward,” President of BBB Bookie Gates said.
In collaboration between Seattle U, the Seattle Mariners, and BBB, the 2026 HBCU Series’ three-game series will play out as follows:
Games 1 and 2: Friday and Saturday at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.
Game 3 Finale: Sunday, March 8, at T-Mobile Park.
