Golden Hour Unboxed: Cultivating Black Entrepreneurship in Bellevue

How do we foster a sustainable Black economy in Bellevue, Washington? ToyBox Consulting & Management’s recent Golden Hour Unboxed event, hosted by media personality Besa Gordon, masterfully established a celebratory space for Black entrepreneurship in Bellevue.

Aimed at bridging cultural gaps, cultivating strong networks, and cementing a permanent presence on the Eastside of Lake Washington, the gathering highlighted the message of visibility, unity, and economic empowerment. By bringing together local vendors and community members, the initiative sought to disrupt traditional narratives and showcase the thriving potential of Black-owned businesses in the region.

At the heart of the initiative, ToyBox Consulting & Management CEO Katoya Palmer emphasized the importance of centering community and building loving, supportive spaces where business owners and neighbors can connect.

Ultimately, the event displayed a broader macroeconomic truth: sustainable, equitable development cannot happen in isolation. It requires intentional relationship-building and consistent local patronage.

Attendees included wildlife educator Jordan Veasley, East King County Relations Manager Angela Phan, Madden Collective Lead Event Coordinator Charmaine Madden, Fathers Against Human Trafficking & Exploitation CEO Jermaine Murray, Eastside For All Healing Justice Organizer Angelica Graham, and Zara Jo Beauty Supply.
