Pioneer Square's Grand Central Arcade Springs to Life with Recurring Pop-Up Market
The historic Grand Central Arcade in Pioneer Square recently hosted a pop-up market, marking the start of a recurring series of events scheduled throughout the spring and summer seasons. Converge Media co-founder Erik Kalligraphy was on site to capture the artistic celebration in Seattle’s oldest building, the Grand Central Building.
The market series was created to support small businesses and independent artists by providing a platform to sell their handmade goods and connect with a new network. This initiative has been invaluable to creators, with artist Aidan Orellana saying that making sales in the historic space "means the world" to him.
Event producer Lloyd Gregory shared his vision of activating the space to become the "Pike Place Market of the South.” By formalizing these small businesses and integrating them into the city’s systems, he hoped to foster a thriving new creative community and help Seattle break records for small business startups.
The next Grand Central Art Walk is happening Thursday, April 2 at 5 p.m. at the Grand Central Arcade. Learn more at pioneersquaremarket.net/markets
